My wheelbarrow is full of swans

That’s a signal from space. Sometimes coded messages arrive from the past, from directions that have nothing to do with cardinal points.

It’s a bit like the scene in Repo Man where Miller says “suppose you’re thinkin’ about a plate o’ shrimp. Suddenly someone’ll say, like, “plate,” or “shrimp,” or “plate o’ shrimp” out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin’ for one, either. It’s all part of a cosmic unconsciousness”.

Someone says ‘my wheelbarrow is full of swans‘ and it reminds me of a cartoon in a newsprint booklet handed out by a certain Christian missionary group, and of the swans in Milton Keynes.  The cartoon was of two men and a wheelbarrow, where one man was carrying the other, in a visual metaphor about spiritual support.

Are you in the wheelbarrow? it asked. The cartoon was duly cut out, pasted to a card, and given to a classmate, becoming a metaphor for the intangibles of collaborative working.

Are you on the wavelength?

Or do we have to take recourse to the swans of Bletchley Park?
